CSC 02 Girls Gold vs LFC Premier White - 9/16/12

We expected going into this game that it would be somewhat emotional for our players since it was against the other club here in Lexington. Our girls came out a little shaky and rushed their play somewhat. We got sucked into playing mostly down the right side of the field. We kept the ball on our offensive half of the field most of the first half and played good defense to win the ball back quickly anytime they got it from us. Offensively we finally started getting the ball switched over to the left side and when we did, we scored our first goal. We were leading 1-0 and right before halftime, we got called for a penalty in the box and they were awarded a pk. Despite the bad call, our keeper was focused and dove getting a hand on the ball but, it unfortunately slid in right by the post. We went in the half tied 1-1. We came out in the second half, settled our emotions and played alot better. We were solid on both Offense and Defense. We passed and possessed the ball very well. We moved the ball right to left, left to right, and forward to back which gave LFC a hard time to contain us. Defensively we were strong keeping them from not really getting any scoring opportunities. They started playing the long ball up but, we defended it well and then moved the ball back up the field with possession. We finished two more shots on goal in the second half and won the game 3-1.

CSC 01 Girls Gold vs CUP Crew Gold West - 9/16/12

We played a really tough team from Columbus, Oh in this TPL game. We knew it would probably be a good match up based on them being in 3rd place and us being in 5th place going into the game this weekend. We possessed the ball well and had several good scoring chances throughout the game. Defensively we played strong not giving up any goals. They came close to scoring on us with a shot that hit the cross bar but, other than that our keeper play was strong making saves and our backline defense played smart and minimized mistakes. Late in the game we pressed offensively to attack the goal knowing that if we scored we would probably be able to hold onto a win. Unfortunately, we were not able to find the back of the net but, it was not a lack of skill or effort. We played strong all the way to the end and had opportunities right up to the last whistle. The game finished with a 0-0 tie.

CSC 02 Girls Gold vs Nelson County 9/15/12

We knew going to Nelson County today that their fields would be rough and that their goals would be smaller than usual. We wanted to stay true to our game plan and possess the ball and get our shots on goal despite the field conditions. We came out in the first few minutes of the game not showing much intensity and as a result, nelson took the ball down the right side of the field and took a shot from outside the penalty area that caught us offguard and they scored first. After that, we decided to take charge of the game and came right back and answerd with our first goal to tie the score 1-1. We started pressuring them better and started possessing the ball. Defensively, we worked well all over the field and did not give up anymore goals throughout the game. Offensively, we attacked well and spread the ball across the field which gave us alot of shots on goal. We finished several of our shots and ended up winning the game 6-1.

CSC 01 Girls Gold vs Warren County - 9/9/12

We knew going into this game that it was going to be a battle. We knew that their team was playing well in the TPL and had also done really well at the Cup tournament earlier in the season. We came out in the first half possessing the ball well. Our passes were spot on. We played solid defense on their players and applied good pressure on them throughout the entire game. We entered halftime with us up 1-0. We knew that they would get more physical in the second half and it proved to be true. Alot of fouls were called throughout the game but, most contact was allowed to play on. I was proud of our girls for playing hard and handling the physical play against them. We never lost our focus and we continued to play our style of play throughout the game. We ended up winning the game 2-1!

CSC 02 Girls Gold vs Thoroughbred Regionals - 9/9/12

The girls came out really aggressive from the first whistle of the game. We scored our first goal in less than 1 minute. We applied high pressure on their players when they had the ball and it caused them alot of turnovers in possession. We possessed the ball really well combining on several passes which ended with shots on goal. Defensively we had outstanding play from all of our players. Despite the Thoroughbreds coming into the game undefeated and projected as one of the top teams in the state, we played one of the best games we have played so far this season. I was extremely glad to see our girls apply what they have been working on in our training sessions on both offense and defense. We ended up winning the game 7-1!

CSC 02 Girls Gold vs Owensboro United at 1:00pm 9/8/12

Despite alot of rain Friday night and Saturday early morning, we were able to play our game as scheduled. With Owensboro coming so far it was good that we were able to play. I knew going into the game that Owensboro would be a tough opponent. I know their coach and respect the way he trains his players. As I had expected, their team played very similar to our style of play. Both teams played with possession and the game was very balanced because of that. After an hour of play and both teams trying to win the game, the final whistle blew with the score being tied 3-3. It was a good game and we are looking forward to playing them again this fall.

CSC 01 Girls Gold - Mead Cup (Dayton, Ohio) Sept 1st and 2nd

We played in the top Five Star Division

Game 1: We won against Internationals from northern Ohio 3-2
Game 2: We lost to Hilliard FC from Ohio 2-3
Game 3: We tied Hoosiers FC from Indiana 2-2

Overall we played pretty well all weekend. We had trouble defending corner kicks which cost us three goals over the weekend. We also struggled some with our finishing. We had lots of shots on goals but missed several by hitting the post, hitting high over the goal, and missing just wide. We also had one player injured going into the weekend and had one player get injured in the last game on Sunday. I felt our team proved that a team from Kentucky could play in the top division of the Mead Cup!
